The Missouri State Fair:

Where Fun Meets Inclusion

The Missouri State Fair is one of the summer’s most anticipated traditions, a place where families make memories, friends reunite, and the smells of kettle corn, funnel cakes, and barbecue float through the warm August air. But this year, there’s something extra special happening that’s making the fair not just bigger, but better and more inclusive than ever.

Entertainment for Everyone

From chart-topping concerts at the Grandstand to high-energy rodeo nights, the Missouri State Fair lineup is packed with events for every taste. But thanks to thoughtful updates, enjoying these shows is now easier for guests of all abilities.

Last year, Center for Human Services – Missouri partnered with the fair to install accessible matting on the Grandstand track, giving everyone a smooth path to enjoy concerts and events. This year, they’ve gone a step further adding matting throughout the seating area to create clear aisles for easier navigation. That means less worry, more comfort, and a better view for all.

The Fair’s Heart: Sensory & Accessibility Support

We all know the fair can be a sensory overload.... bright lights, loud music, crowds, and constant motion. For families with sensory sensitivities or mobility needs, that can mean missing out. But not this year.

The Sensory and Accessibility Resource Center and Mobile Center from the Center for Human Services are here to make sure the fair is a safe, welcoming space for everyone. These amazing additions feature:

  • Calming sensory rooms for guests needing a break from the noise
  • Accessible restrooms with child/adult-size changing stations
  • Friendly, trained staff offering resources and guidance

Sensory-Friendly Time on the Carnival Midway

For a calmer midway experience, mark your calendars:

  • Friday, Aug. 8 | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • Thursday, Aug. 14 | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

During these times, ride operators adjust lights, sounds, and volume to create a gentler environment allowing more families to join the fun without the overwhelm.

Accessibility maps are available at fair information booths, the Sensory & Accessibility Centers, and online here.

Food, Rides & More

Of course, the fair still has all the classics we love, from corn dogs to giant lemonades, livestock shows to craft exhibits, and thrill rides to petting zoos. The difference now? Everyone has an easier way to enjoy them.

Bottom line: The Missouri State Fair has always been about community, but with these new accessibility upgrades, it’s more than just a celebration ...it’s a statement: Fun is for everyone.
