Kelsey's Corner:

When the Chaos Feels Like Magic

Last night, I stood in the kitchen surrounded by a storm of Halloween chaos: orange streamers clinging to the counter, candy wrappers scattered like confetti, and tiny shoes... one of which I will never find, sitting under the table. My to-do list, already ambitious, now looked like a horror story in itself: bake cupcakes, fix a costume, carve a pumpkin, and somewhere in there, feed everyone before sugar meltdown hour hit. I took a deep breath and laughed. Because if I didn’t, I might just cry.

But in the middle of that mess, I noticed something magical. My youngest son, covered in paint and pumpkin guts, was proudly showing off his pumpkin, while my oldest ran around with a spooky flashlight that somehow lit up his whole face. In those moments, the chaos wasn’t a burden — it was the very essence of what makes Halloween week feel alive. Loud, messy, sticky, chaotic… and full of joy.

As a mom and business owner, I live in calendars and checklists. I am the queen of planning. But fall, and especially Halloween, reminds me to slow down.... To notice the crunch of leaves beneath tiny boots, the smell of cinnamon floating from a nearly burnt batch of pumpkin muffins, the quiet moments when everyone finally sits together on the couch after a busy day. These are the moments that don’t make social media, but they make memory.

And the truth? One day, the perfectly posed photos won’t matter. My kids won’t remember the exact shade of my pumpkin spice latte or whether the costumes were perfect. They will remember the warmth of a hug on a chilly evening, the sticky hands they held as they helped me bake, the sound of laughter echoing through a messy living room. That is the magic we get to give them, unplanned and unfiltered.

So this week, I challenge you to embrace the chaos. Let it be loud. Let it be messy. Let it be imperfect. Take a moment to step back and see the wonder hidden in the ordinary. Put the phone down, grab a pumpkin, laugh at a spill, and notice how magical your home feels even when it’s not “Pinterest perfect.”
