If you need a cozy indoor activity that looks adorable and feels like a win, this one is it. It’s basically a mini science moment that doubles as a sensory-friendly “wow,” and you can do it with what you probably already have.

What you need

  • 1–2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1–2 tbsp citric acid (or use vinegar as the liquid instead—see below)
  • Warm water in a cup (or vinegar for extra fizz)
  • Optional: heart confetti, glitter, or sprinkles (the “confetti” is the magic)

Steps

  1. Put baking soda (and any confetti) into a shallow bowl or clear cup.
  2. Mix citric acid into the dry mix.
  3. Slowly pour warm water in small splashes. Watch the fizz build.
  4. Want bigger bubbles? Use vinegar instead of water.
  5. Talk about what you see: foam, bubbles, sound, color, “what changed?”

Mess-managed tip: Do this in a sheet pan. It contains spills and makes clean-up a 30-second situation.
