The Valentine’s Week Reality Check (You’re Not Behind)

Somewhere around February 10, the world quietly starts implying that we should become professional party planners. Classroom treats. Special outfits. Heart-themed everything. And if you’re already balancing work, kids, life, and the basic task of keeping everyone fed— it can feel like you missed a meeting where everyone else got a handbook.

Let me be the friend who says it clearly: your kids don’t need Pinterest-level February to feel loved. They need you—present in small moments. A note in the lunchbox. Five minutes of “tell me the best part of today.” A silly dance while dinner cooks. (Bonus points if nobody is filming it.)

  • If you’re thriving: do the themed week. Go big. Love that for you.
  • If you’re surviving: pick one sweet thing and call it done.
  • If you’re barely functioning: your kids will still remember your warmth, not your crafts.
