Summer Always Felt Bigger When We Were Kids

When we were kids, summer felt endless.

The last day of school practically felt like freedom itself.

No schedules.

No homework.

No alarms.

Just bikes, popsicles, sprinkler water somehow ending up in your socks, and being outside until the streetlights came on.

Now as parents?

Summer feels… slightly different.

There’s excitement, of course.

But there’s also:

“How am I feeding these kids 24/7?”
“How are they already bored?”
“Didn’t I JUST buy snacks yesterday?”

And honestly, I think somewhere along the way social media convinced parents that summer has to be this perfectly curated experience packed with expensive vacations, color-coded bucket lists, and daily enrichment activities.

But the older I get—and the more I watch my boys—the more I realize that isn’t what they’ll remember anyway.

They’ll remember farmers market mornings.

Sticky berry fingers.

Late bedtimes.

The random Tuesday nights we decided to grab ice cream.

Running barefoot through the yard.

The little things.

And honestly?

Those are usually the moments that matter most.

So if you’re entering summer feeling pressure to make it magical…

I hope this reminds you:

To kids, magic is usually much simpler than we think.
