Kelsey's Corner: Why I'm Traveling Solo
Three weeks from now, I'll be boarding a plane by myself.
And honestly?
That feels a little strange to even type.
Because if you're a parent, you know that traveling alone isn't something that happens very often.
Especially once kids enter the picture.
Most trips become family trips.
Most packing lists belong to everyone else.
Most travel plans revolve around making sure everyone has what they need.
And that's exactly how it should be.
But in just three weeks, I'll be boarding a plane headed to Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana as part of a Macaroni KID publisher experience.
While I'll be traveling solo, I'll be thinking like a parent the entire time.
Truthfully, the part I'm most excited about isn't the travel itself.
It's the opportunity to experience something new and bring useful information back to the families I serve every week through Macaroni KID.
I'll be looking at everything through a parent's lens.
Not a travel influencer's lens.
Not a marketing lens.
A parent's lens.
The Questions I'll Be Asking
- What would my kids love most?
- What makes family travel easier?
- How accessible are the activities?
- What sensory considerations should families know about?
- What would I want another parent to tell me before booking?
Because let's be honest.
Family vacations look very different once children are involved.
Parents aren't just evaluating destinations anymore.
They're evaluating convenience.
Comfort.
Accessibility.
Food options.
Activities.
And whether everyone in the family can actually enjoy the experience.
My goal is simple:
Bring home real answers, practical tips, and honest observations that help local families make informed travel decisions.
Until then, you'll find me doing what every parent does before a trip:
Making packing lists.
Double-checking reservations.
Researching way too much.
And occasionally wondering where I put my passport.
Again.
Three weeks and counting.
Three weeks.
One suitcase.
Lots of notes.
And a promise to bring back everything I learn for local families.
Disclosure: Kelsey will be participating in a hosted Macaroni KID publisher experience at Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana later this month. Opinions and observations shared will be her own.
