The Summer Bucket List You'll Actually Finish

By Kelsey Beaver, Macaroni KID Publisher –Clinton, Warrensburg, Sedalia & Whiteman Air Force Base June 30, 2026

Let's be honest.

Most summer bucket lists are... ambitious.

Fifty-seven activities.

Three vacations.

Pinterest-worthy crafts.

Perfect family photos.

By the middle of July, we're already feeling behind.

So this year, let's try something different.

Instead of making a list that's impossible to complete...

Let's make one that's impossible not to enjoy.

Our Summer Challenge

☀️ Watch one sunset together.

🍦 Try a local ice cream shop you've never visited.

🚲 Ride bikes until the streetlights come on.

🌽 Visit a farmers market.

📚 Attend a library program.

🌳 Explore a park you've never been to.

🍉 Eat watermelon outside.

💦 Get soaked at a splash pad.

🧺 Have a picnic.

✨ Stay outside long enough to catch lightning bugs.

Notice what's missing?

Airfare.

Reservations.

Expensive tickets.

The best summer memories usually aren't expensive.

They're available on a random Tuesday evening.

The challenge isn't finding something amazing to do.

It's slowing down enough to enjoy it.

Don't worry about checking every box.

If your kids spend the summer laughing, exploring, getting messy, and making memories with the people they love...

I'd call that a successful summer.

Sometimes the smallest adventures become the biggest memories.
