Last Saturday wasn't on the calendar.
There wasn't a color-coded itinerary.
No perfectly timed schedule.
No grand adventure.
Just a simple question.
"What should we do today?"
Those might be my favorite kinds of days.
Because they almost always become the ones we remember.
We wandered.
Stopped when something looked interesting.
Stayed longer than we planned.
Laughed more than expected.
And somewhere between one stop and the next, another family memory quietly happened.
I've realized something over the last few years.
Children don't usually remember the cost of an outing.
They remember how it felt.
They remember getting messy.
Trying something new.
The funny conversation in the car.
The unexpected detour.
The ice cream stop that nobody planned.
This Week's Challenge
Instead of asking,
"What should we spend money on?"
Try asking,
"Where haven't we explored yet?"
- Visit a different park.
- Walk a downtown street you've never explored.
- Try one locally-owned restaurant.
- Find a trail.
- Grab coffee while the kids explore nearby.
- Visit your farmers market.
Adventure usually isn't hiding hundreds of miles away.
Sometimes...
It's just around the corner.
Your hometown still has surprises waiting.
