One Last Ride
Every August, something special happens in Missouri.
The smell of fresh kettle corn drifts through the air. The midway lights begin glowing just before sunset. Children carefully carry oversized stuffed animals that somehow became absolutely necessary to win. Someone is already eating a corn dog before lunch.
For eleven days, the Missouri State Fair becomes far more than an event. It becomes a tradition.
More Than Carnival Rides
Yes, there are thrilling rides, incredible concerts, championship livestock shows, award-winning food vendors, agriculture exhibits, live entertainment, shopping, demonstrations and enough sweet treats to make every kid smile.
But what keeps families returning year after year isn't just what's happening inside the gates.
It's the memories waiting to be made.
It's watching grandparents introduce grandchildren to traditions they've loved for decades.
It's seeing teenagers reconnect with classmates they haven't seen all summer.
It's toddlers experiencing bright lights and music with wide eyes full of wonder.
Our Favorite Fair Traditions
- 🎡 Ride the Ferris Wheel at sunset.
- 🌽 Try something you've never eaten before.
- 🐄 Visit the livestock barns.
- 🎶 Stop for live music—even if just for one song.
- 🍦 Share dessert instead of ordering two.
- 📸 Take the family photo...and then put your phone away.
A Gentle Reminder
School backpacks are filling. Teachers are arranging classrooms. Schedules are beginning to return.
Summer rarely announces when it's leaving. One day you're buying sunscreen... The next you're labeling school supplies.
Maybe that's why the State Fair feels so meaningful.
It gives us one last chance to slow down before routines begin again.
⭐ Family Challenge
This week, make one memory that doesn't involve rushing. Ride something. Taste something. Laugh together. Stay for the sunset. Those are often the moments children remember most.
Before Summer Slips Away...
Whether you spend an entire day at the Missouri State Fair or simply stop by for your favorite food, remember this:
Children rarely remember everything they did.
They remember how those moments made them feel.
Years from now, your family probably won't remember which ribbon won Grand Champion or exactly how many rides you rode.
But they may remember holding your hand while the Ferris wheel climbed into the evening sky.
Sometimes...
One last ride is all summer needed.
