The Best Thing in Your Suitcase Might Be Something Familiar

When we pack for kids, we think about clothes, sunscreen, medicine, snacks and approximately 47 things they will probably never touch.

But don't underestimate familiar.

The same cup. The favorite stuffed animal. Headphones. A familiar snack. A small sensory tool. The blanket that takes up an unreasonable amount of suitcase space but somehow makes bedtime work.

Adults can usually understand, “This feels different because we're on vacation.”

Little kids just know everything feels different.

A little piece of home can be a pretty powerful travel tool.

You don't have to recreate their entire routine. Sometimes one predictable thing in an unfamiliar place is enough to help their nervous system say, “Okay. I know this.”
