FAMILY LIFE • COVER STORY
The Memories We Didn't Plan ❤️
You know those family moments you spend weeks planning?
The outfits. The activities. The reservations. The perfectly timed schedule that looks SO good in your head.
And then you bring actual children. 😂
Somebody's hungry. Somebody's tired. Somebody suddenly hates the activity they were begging to do yesterday.
And just like that, the day you pictured starts looking completely different.
But I've been thinking about something lately.
What if the best part was never the plan?
Maybe it's the ridiculous conversation in the car. The unexpected stop that turns into everyone's favorite part. The way your child lights up over something you almost walked right past.
Or maybe it's deciding to skip everything and spend the afternoon together doing absolutely nothing remarkable.
We put so much effort into creating memories for our kids that sometimes we forget they're making them while we're busy trying to get to the next thing.
The magic doesn't always happen on schedule.
And the moments that feel messy to us might be the ones our children remember with the biggest smiles.
I'm learning that a changed plan doesn't mean a ruined experience. Sometimes it just means the day is becoming something we didn't expect.
And sometimes, that's where the good stuff lives.
So take the pictures. Make the plans. Get excited about the adventures. But leave a little room for the moments you couldn't possibly have planned.
Those count, too. ❤️
