Why Is There a Rock in Your Pocket? 😂

If you've ever done laundry and discovered three rocks, a leaf, half a crayon and something you genuinely cannot identify, congratulations.

You probably live with a tiny collector.

Children have this incredible ability to find value in things adults walk right past.

A perfectly round rock. A stick shaped like a sword. A feather. An acorn. A bottle cap that apparently has tremendous sentimental value.

To us? More stuff to clean up.

To them? Treasure.

And there's actually something pretty wonderful happening.

When children collect, compare and organize objects, they're practicing observation, decision-making, sorting and storytelling.

They're noticing textures, colors, shapes and differences. They're deciding what matters to them.

And sometimes they're simply enjoying the satisfaction of finding something interesting.

Of course, we can still have boundaries. Nobody needs a mystery bug collection living under their pillow. 😂

Try giving those treasures a designated home. A little basket, a shoebox or a special shelf can turn the collection into something your child can revisit and proudly show you.

And every once in a while, ask why they picked that particular one.

You might hear a whole story you never expected.

Because sometimes that rock isn't just a rock. It's proof that your child noticed something beautiful in an ordinary place. ❤️
